What are the wireless communication modules? What is the difference between them?

With the rapid development of Internet of Things technology, Internet of Things terminal equipment is also widely used in a variety of scenarios, different application scenarios have different market demand, there are now a variety of wireless communication modules on the market, resulting in many users are unable to correctly distinguish between the various types of wireless modules, today we explain a few common types of wireless communication modules, as well as their use of technology and differences.

1. Bluetooth

Bluetooth is a wireless communication module. It is a wireless technology standard that can realize short distance data exchange between fixed terminal equipment, mobile terminal equipment and personal LAN. It uses 2.4~2.485GHZUHF radio wave ISM in the frequency band.

Bluetooth wireless technology complexity, equipment networking speed, only 10 seconds; integration and high reliability; transmission rate is generally 1Mbps; low cost, installation is relatively simple. It is a kind of short-range wireless communication technology.

2.Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi wireless technology has been all over every aspect of our lives, which is the most common wireless communication technology we come into contact with every day, bringing great convenience to our lives. It is a wireless LAN technology created based on the IEEE802.11 standard. This technology converts all wired network signals into radio wave signals, and other end devices connect to wifi through wireless communication modules to realize wireless network communication.

Wi-Fi technology coverage is generally within 100 meters, the technology is more complex, the transmission rate can be up to 54Mbps, the working frequency band 2.4GHz, the transmission power is less than 100mW, and the data security performance is relatively poor compared with Bluetooth wireless communication. However, the invention of WiFi is very much in line with the needs of modern people and society, and the development prospect is very broad.

3.ZigBee

ZigBee wireless communication technology is a low-power LAN protocol based on IEEE802.15.4 standard. It was formally established in August, 2001 At the time of its inception, there were certain errors due to the hasty release of this version, which has since been improved.

ZigBee wireless communication technology is similar to Bluetooth wireless communication technology. Both are short-range wireless communication technologies, but Bluetooth wireless communication technology has shortcomings such as high power consumption, high complexity, and short communication distance, which has a limited range of applications and is widely used in the home and personal range.ZigBee technology was developed to meet the needs of industrial automation, and is characterized by a simple layout, anti-jamming, reliable transmission, ease of use, and low cost. The communication distance is extended to 10 meters. From the opening distance to several hundred meters, it can reach about 50 meters in indoor scenes.

4.Digital transmission radio

Digital transmission radio is the use of DSP digital signal processing technology and software wireless point technology to achieve high-performance professional data radio. Digital radio can be understood as a communication medium. Like fiber optics and microwave, it also has certain uses. The transmission distance of digital radio is very long, which is suitable for various complex environments. The transmission rate is 19.2Kbps, but the terminal equipment is more expensive, the cost of use is higher, and the installation is more complicated.

Types and differences of wireless communication modules

According to different classification standards, we can also divide the common wireless modules on the market into three categories

1. ASK super-aberrant modules, mainly used for simple remote control and data transmission;

2. Wireless transceiver module, mainly used for wireless transceiver data through the microcontroller control, generally using FSK, GFSK modulation;

3. Wireless data transmission module, mainly through the serial port directly send and receive data, easy to use. If divided by the operating frequency, there are usually 230MHz, 315MHz, 433MHz, 2.4GHz, etc. in the market. Like helium k, smart homes also use wifi modules to control home appliances.

In IoT application scenarios, large particles (more than 10 million annual demand) have been formed in the market, which are mainly seen in the areas of smart meters, mobile payments, smart vehicles, and smart grids. The growth in these areas has led to significant growth in the wireless communication module market.
