u-blox announces first high-precision GNSS module based on u-blox F9 technology
u-blox, a leading provider of global positioning and wireless communications technology, recently (April 27, 2018) announced the launch of the ZED-F9P multiband GNSS module with integrated multiband real-time kinematic (RTK) technology for machine control, ground-based robotic vehicles, and high-precision unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) applications. the ZED-F9P measures just 22 x 17 x 2.4 mm and utilizes technology from the newly launched u-blox F9 platform to provide stable, high-precision positioning within seconds.
The u-blox ZED-F9P is the first mass-market multi-band receiver to simultaneously receive signals from four GNSS constellations (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou). By receiving GNSS signals from multiple frequency bands (L1 / L2 / L5) and combining this with RTK technology, the ZED-F9P achieves centimeter-level accuracy within seconds and can receive more satellite signals at any given time, even in complex environments such as cities.
With its extremely high update frequency, the ZED-F9P is ideal for highly dynamic applications such as drones. The advanced multi-band RTK algorithm integrated on its chip eliminates the need for additional hardware or third-party RTK libraries; and the module's ready-to-use, easy-to-integrate nature enables product developers to quickly bring their ideas to market.
The ZED-F9P completely removes the three main barriers to mass-market application of centimeter-level positioning accuracy systems: cost, size and power consumption. the ZED-F9P is smaller and more energy-efficient than existing solutions; and as a cost-effective alternative, the ZED-F9P will bring a new level of high-precision positioning applications to the mass market.
“The new ZED-F9P GNSS receiver is based on our NEO-M8P high-precision GNSS module, but it is able to utilize all available GNSS signals to fully enhance device performance. ” said MårtenStröm, Senior Director Product Management, Positioning, u-blox Product Center, “ By making robust and affordable high-precision positioning technology easier to use, we hope to drive innovation and enable a new generation of high-precision GNSS navigation applications. ”
